Development Programme 2006

The West Midlands Modern Pentathlon Association is always looking to develop keen athletes in the 5 pentathlon disciplines.  Many of our athletes come from swimming, running and fencing clubs and most start by entering the biathlon competitions (run, swim).  The aim of this programme is to develop biathletes gradually into successful triathletes (run, swim, shoot). Once this has been achieved, we look to develop skills in the the final two events, fencing and show jumping.

If you are a biathlete who would like to enter the next triathlon competition, we would love to see you at one of our shooting 'taster' sessions.  This session instills the safety aspects of pistol shooting and gives you the opportunity to try pistol shooting under the guidance of qualified coaches. All equipment is provided.

If you enjoy the 'taster' session, you will be encouraged to attend the regular coaching sessions - if you are new to pistol shooting we ask that you attend at least two coaching sessions prior to entering a triathlon competition.

Due to the recent popularity of the shooting sessions, we are introducing fencing to the development programme.  Athletes who currently run, swim & shoot will be encouraged to try fencing under the guidance of qualified coaches.  The goal is to get you competent in four of the pentathlon disciplines so that you can compete in the winter tetrathlon we are running in January 2007.

The following schedule of coaching from qualified coaches has been developed with the support of the Talented Athlete Programme.  These sessions are open to all MPAGB members at £3 per individual per discipline - there are concessions for 3 or more family members attending the same session.  All equipment is provided free of charge.  Fees will be payable on the day.

If you wish to be considered for a place on one or more of these events please register your interest to sue.hyde2@btopenworld.com. You will be included in our 'development' mailing list and will be contacted a week before the event to see if you wish to attend.

If you have to cancel your booking, please give Sue Hyde a call on 07976 981139 at least three days in advance to allow your place to be offered to another athlete.

Please check this site regularly as further sessions in other disciplines will be planned.
